Karachi celebrates Japanese emperor’s birthday


KARACHI: A local hotel on Monday celebrated Japanese Emperor Akihito’s 84th birthday by singing the national anthems of Japan and Pakistan, cutting a cake along with a speech in fluent Urdu by the Consul General of Japan in Karachi Mr Toshikazu Isomura’s, according to media reports. “And we hope to see the relations between both our countries becoming even better in the coming days,” he said. The reception was richly decorated with Japanese cultural flavours and performances including sushi, tempura and sake, and a display of scenic photos of Japan. Some fine Ikebana groups also showcased beautiful flower arrangements while the Pakistan Bonsai Society exhibited bonsai, the Japanese art of growing miniature trees in a container. His Majesty Emperor Akihito, the 125th emperor of Japan, turns 84 on Dec 23.
