Back in January, the state Medicaid director warned that 120,000 Kansans — roughly 4% of the population — were at risk of losing their health care coverage. And while some loss of coverage might be expected, Kansas has dropped 51,000 folks from the rolls already. The Kansans we’re talking about now qualified for plain old Medicaid back when the pandemic began in 2020. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has offered state governments 12 separate waivers to help their residents with the Medicaid unwinding process. They have been dropped from the Kansas Medicaid rolls.
