PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya (UM) will form a five-member panel to investigate an allegation that a lecturer made racist remarks to a student earlier this week, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan. Kamalanathan added in a Facebook post on Thursday that he took the allegation made by a student seriously, and said that he had contacted UM vice-chancellor Tan Sri Prof Dr Mohd Amin Jalaludin as soon as he learned about the claim. "He is aware of the allegation and assured me that the university will not condone such behaviour from any member of the university's staff," said Kamalanathan. Kamalanathan added that the panel will meet all parties involved and witnesses to the alleged incident, and said that UM will issue a public statement on its findings and its decision. "He has assured me that action will be taken against anyone found guilty of tarnishing the good name of the university," said Kamalanathan.
