Kamal Haasan seeks anticipatory bail

A day after the Aravakurichi police booked Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan on the charge of spreading enmity on the grounds of religion, the actor-politician on Wednesday moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail. In his petition, Mr. Haasan said he believed in universal brotherhood and was for peaceful co-existence. In fact, rather than creating communal disharmony, the incident had created a threat to his life, including a Minister threatening to cut off his tongue, Mr. Haasan said. Contending that he was falsely implicated in the alleged offence, Mr. Haasan said he was willing to abide by the conditions for grant of anticipatory bail. The anticipatory bail petition would be taken up for hearing on May 16.
