Founded by Jessie Moon Holton and Carolyn Hough Arms in 1901, Holton-Arms opened in a rowhouse on Hillyer Place, but quickly outgrew the space. After the school moved to S Street in 1906, Holton and Arms continued to buy neighboring lots and build new structures.
