Kalaburagi goes against the flow

Addressing presspersons, Kiran A. Deshmukh, district president of IMA, termed the proposed Bill draconian designed to make medical education unaffordable to economically weaker sections of society. “The Bill goes against not just medical professionals, but economically weaker sections of the society. As per the norms in force today, the government fills 50% of the seats in private medical colleges with meritorious students. Even in the rest of the 50% of the seats, the management is allowed to have higher fees for only up to 15%. Mr. Deshmukh said that the Union government wanted to replace corruption-ridden Medical Council of India (MCI) with National Medical Commission (NMC).
