Traffic on State Highway 1 near the intersection with Rangitata Island Rd where the fatal crash occurred. A 42-year-old Kaiapoi man has been named as the person who died in a crash just south of the Rangitata River in South Canterbury. The crash happened at 10.35pm. NZ Transport Agency media manager Frances Adank earlier said the crash happened on a stretch of road where the speed limit had been temporarily dropped to 50kmh at the Rangitata Island turnoff.
