The High Court did not consult the Election Commission before staying the Gazipur City Corporation election on Sunday, Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam said. The schedule for Gazipur City Corporation election, to be held on May 15, had been announced on March 31. However, Kabita said the Election Commission had already directed the local returning officer to stop all election activities in Gazipur. She further said it was not possible to predict if the Khulna city polls would be cancelled too.
