KTMB hasn’t retrenched anyone, plans to hire more in future, says Wee

KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has not retrenched any of its 5,800 staff despite facing challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. "We have not implemented VSS (voluntary separation scheme) and based on plans, KTMB intends to increase its manpower from 5,800 to 7,200 personnel in the next five years. Dr Wee was responding to Fahmi Fadzil (PH-Lembah Pantai), who asked if KTMB had implemented a VSS for its staff, owing to the impact of Covid-19. He also said the RM1.232bil additional allocation under the Bill was meant to upgrade KTMB's capabilities, specifically under the Gemas-Johor dual track project. "The RM1.232bil is given specifically for the Gemas Johor dual track project as the initial ceiling was pegged at RM1bil, while the actual expenditure is RM2.493bil.
