Having joined the struggling club in the off-season Boateng warmed himself to coach Quique Setien during their training sessions. The Ghanaian was handed a start and was pivotal as they raced into a commanding lead before Boateng scored in the 31st minute to make his mark in Spanish football. After playing in some of the top leagues in the world for Hertha Berlin, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Portsmouth, AC Milan (twice) and Schalke, Boateng moved to Spain on a one-year contract with Las Palmas this summer. Ex-Liverpool ace Nabil El Zhar whipped a cross from the right and Boateng dove to steer home the fine header.
