Among the areas they will have the inquiry in the North Rift region include Marigat, Baringo County Baringo North, East Pokot County and Turkana County. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights vice chairperson George Morara who addressed journalists in a Nakuru hotel on Monday said they will conduct a public inquiry on security and human rights in the North Rift from May 9 to June 11, 2016. An estimated 224 civilians, 97 police officers have been killed whereas 180,300 people have been displaced in the past three years in the North Rift, a rights body has said. According to Morara, 846 households have been set ablaze in addition to 3,682 livestock being stolen during the three-year period in the North Rift; factors which he stated have led the commission to undertake a public inquiry on security and human rights in the North Rift in order to bring lasting solutions in the region. The public inquiries according to him will enable the commission come up with recommendations that will help in the promotion of durable solutions to the question of insecurity in Kenya and especially in the North Rift region.
