KNCHR concerned over spousal separation after birth of intersex children

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights has raised concerns over the many instances of spouses separating following the birth of intersex children. Veronica Mwangi, a KNCHR director, said most intersex children in Kenya face serious challenges following the separation of their parents. Mwangi said some intersex children are abandoned when such breakups occur, making it difficult for them to be integrated into society. She said intersex children do not get properly vaccinated owing to the requirement of identification of a child as a boy or a girl. Mwangi said this kind of discrimination is unnecessary as intersex persons are humans who should be treated just like other people.
