KL2017: Thailand quashes Malaysia's hope for futsal gold

KUALA LUMPUR: The nation's hopes of securing a maiden gold in the futsal competition came to a disappointing end after losing 4-3 to Thailand in their final game at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games today. Thailand ended the competition in first place with nine points while the national squad were forced to settle for second and the silver on seven points. Thailand opened strongly and entered the half-time break with a commanding 3-0 lead thanks to strikes from Kritsada Wongkaeo (4th minute), Suphawut Thueanklang (11th) and Apiwat Chaemcharoen (18th). Malaysia pulled one back through Syed Aizad Daniel (25th) only for Thailand to reply three minutes late via Suphawut Thueanklang. The national team pushed on and were rewarded with goals from Yazid Kamaruzuan (31st) and a second from Syed Aizad (33rd) though it was not enough as Thailand hung on until the final whistle.
