I read an admission letter for a certain extra-county school in Western, which had a list of requirements that, according to me, was ambiguous. As secondary schools prepare to receive Form One students starting next week, the Ministry of Education should step in and streamline all the requirements for school admission in the future. School principals, teachers and other education stakeholders are working with some cartels to extort parents of cash, thus the need for the ministry’s intervention. For example, a school trouser being sold at Sh1,000, when the same type of trouser, with the same material, goes at about Sh600 in a different shop. These requirements look petty but impact largely on the parents, thus for the need to harmonise the requirements by the ministry.
