Thousands of people across the world have tuned in to watch a kākāpō, New Zealand's critically endangered parrot, lay her eggs, feed her young and protect them from hungry petrels. With just 236 of the flightless parrots left, watching the next generation of kākāpō hatch live from their eggs is an historic step in the conservation of this elusive species. Rakiura, a female kākāpō, can be viewed live from her nest on Whenua Hou/Codfish Island, a small, predator-free island in southern New Zealand.
