Justin Verlander wants MLB to come clean on juiced baseballs

Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander is demanding transparency from MLB. Verlander acknowledged a recent study by FiveThirtyEight.com that had baseballs from after the 2015 all-star break examined — by scientists at USC and Kent State — and revealed that recent baseballs used in the 2017 season were less dense (weighing about a half gram less) than the balls used before the 2015 midway point. That slight change could be just enough to make a home run be hit 15 centimetres farther. “All I’m saying is I don’t care if balls are juiced (seriously). We’re all using the same ball, so it’s a fair field,” Verlander tweeted.
