Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer delivered a lengthy criticism of the government’s throne speech Friday that replayed many of his party’s election themes, and aggressively attacked Trudeau. Scheer warned that the throne speech, presented by the governor-general on behalf of the government a day earlier, failed to address the economic worries of Western Canadians hit by depressed commodity markets. But Trudeau fired back that is Scheer who is out of step with voters. In response, Trudeau said he’d thrown away his prepared remarks, and addressed Scheer’s criticisms head-on. On concerns about national unity, Trudeau said, he “couldn’t be any clearer in supporting that concern” and the “concrete worries” Canadians have about their futures.
