(CNN) Oh Canada, two of your biggest stars opened the American Music Awards Sunday night. Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes recently released a duet and also blessed their fans with a joint performance. Bieber started things off with two of his singles, "Lonely" and "Holy." The former is autobiographical with its lyrics bout "the money and fame at an early age," while the latter is grown Bieber with a spiritual awakening. Bieber and Mendes then performed their joint new single, "Monster."
