A doughty Good Magic ran second, and one of the early favorites who had, by post time fallen slightly in favor, Florida Derby winner Audible, showed. Justify's performance gives his trainer, Bob Baffert, his fifth Derby win. At the top of the stretch Justify simply pulled away, leaving no doubt and no chance for Good Magic or Audible, grinding in the mud from his hooves. It was a relatively low-paying board, however: Good Magic, at 9-1, paid $9.20 to show, and Audible, at 7-1, paid $5.80. Justify fended off a soulful challenge by Good Magic in the late to bring home the win.
