She said, “The essential principles of the ADR are confidentiality, flexibility and satisfaction of parties’ interests. In a state like Lagos, ADR, which is a private form of settling disputes, has been integrated into the system of justice. “In the private sector, the most common form of initiating ADR is by inserting an ADR clause as a term in the contract of the parties. A general reference to ADR or a specific ADR process such as arbitration or mediation may be agreed to by parties in the contract. The three ways of initiating ADR are by walk-ins, court referrals or direct intervention by an ADR centre,” she noted.
