Jurors in the trial of Lucy Letby, a nurse accused of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill 10 others, have begun deliberating their verdicts. The judge also urged the jurors to strive for unanimous verdicts, but reassured them that he would provide further guidance if they were unable to reach a unanimous decision. The trial at Manchester Crown Court has heard evidence regarding Letby’s alleged attacks on multiple babies shortly after their parents had left their cot-sides. Throughout the trial, Letby has consistently denied the allegations, claiming that the babies were victims of poor care and should have been receiving specialist treatment elsewhere. The nurse, a university graduate from Hereford, expressed her shock and disbelief at being accused of these “sickening” crimes.
