Fuji(CNN) Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb the world's highest peak, has died at age 77, according to Japanese media reports. Tabei climbed Mount Everest in 1975, becoming the first woman to reach the 29,000 foot summit. In 1992, the Japanese climber also conquered the so-called "Seven Summits" -- becoming the first woman to scale the highest mountains on seven continents. The seven summits comprise Kilimanjaro, Denali, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Carstensz Pyramid, Vinson and Everest.
