June Jobs Report: Everything You Need to Know


The 222,000 headline numbers looks heady, but it was boosted by an unusual source: the public sector, which added 35,000 jobs. The big jump - for a sector that had been adding an average of 4,000 jobs the past six months - "looks a little suspicious," Capital Economics' Paul Ashworth wrote. The federal government added only 4,000 jobs, and state governments shed 4,000 jobs. So, those numbers net out to zero. Local governments added 35,000 jobs in June: 13,600 of that came in education, and 22,200 came from outside the schools.
