Vesuvio Pizzeria & Spaghetti House, a city favourite in the Junction for 63 years, will close permanently after one last delivery and takeout service on Sunday. The restaurant opened in 1957, when brothers Dominic and Ettore (Eddie) Pugliese and their father Rocco helped introduce New York-style pizza to Torontonians. “We have a fantastic delivery service, but a lot of people are cooking at home and there’s no one outside. On April 15, 1981, the Star reported that a panel of 10 Italian chefs picked Vesuvio as having the best pizza in the city. In 2010, former Star restaurant critic Amy Pataki wrote that Vesuvio had the best delivery pizza.
