The 18-year-old national men's singles shuttler reached the last eight in style when he upset his senior teammate and national champion Lim Chi Wing 13-21, 21-16, 21-12 at the Stadium Perbandaran Pasir Gudang, Johor. That was my key to winning the match against Chi Wing," said Jun Hao, who is also the Asian junior champion. Chi Wing started making mistakes and the pressure got to him. Jun Hao's teammate Cheam June Wei also marched into the quarter-finals with a 21-18, 18-21, 23-21 win over Thailand's Thammasin Sitthikom.
