Julian Merryweather figured he was one start away from putting a 15-month long recovery behind him. Four of those innings came in a rehab start at the end of June with class-A Dunedin. “To put it simply, I overworked (his forearm),” Merryweather said recently during a visit to the Rogers Centre for the organization’s annual development program. The fight for a spot on the Blue Jays mound might have been easier last year when Toronto was without a set rotation for much of the season, but Merryweather is ready for it. Merryweather is 28 years old, among the oldest players in Toronto’s system.
