KUALA LUMPUR: The judicial review bid by Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah (pic) should be dismissed as the travel ban imposed on her was lifted in 2016, said Senior Federal Counsel Shamsul Bolhassan. He argued the matter is now academic as Maria was removed from the blacklist on May 17, 2016. "She can travel now," he said and added that the travel ban was not a form of discrimination as any person could check their immigration status on a portal for citizens who wish to travel abroad. He added that Maria was also seeking for an order of prohibition to prevent the respondents from making any similar travel ban against her in the future. She is also seeking a declaration that the respondents do not have an unfettered discretion in arriving at their decision.
