Judge who gave verdict in Udumalpet‘honour killing’ case dead


more-inPrincipal District Sessions Judge Alamelu Natarajan (55), who recently awarded death penalty to six accused in the Dalit youth Shankar murder case in Udumalpet, died at a Coimbatore hospital on Thursday after a brief illness. She was admitted to the hospital with pulmonary problems on Tuesday. Her condition deteriorated on Thursday morning and she died around 10.30 a.m.Sources in Tirupur added that the last rites would be performed at Anna Nagar in Chennai on January 26. She entered the judicial services as a District Munsif at Kancheepuram in 1991, after practising as a lawyer for seven years in Tiruchi district court. She was the Principal District and Sessions Judge at Tirupur since January 5, 2015.
