He has since denied the contents of the video, though that was perhaps an inevitability. The authenticity or otherwise of the video is not really relevant, but the judiciary itself needs to do a forensic audit of the video. This is not the first episode of a recording showing that judges can be suborned; a previous episode involving the late Benazir Bhutto and the case being heard by Mr Justice Muhammad Qayyum, who had to resign over the matter. In this case too, despite the judge’s vehement denials, he may have no other option but to follow his example. Previous doubts were reiterations of the defence’s case; this is the first evidence of the judge not having acted on the evidence alone before him.
