Juan Gabriel's ashes to be taken to Mexico City for tribute

The ashes of singer-song writer Juan Gabriel will be taken on Sunday to Mexico City, where a tribute honoring the late singer will be held at the Palace of Fine Arts. On Saturday, residents of Ciudad Juarez bid farewell to the Mexican musical icon with a Mass celebrated outside his home and a street festival. The urn holding the late singer's ashes arrived Saturday in the border city with an escort provided by motorcycle officers from the police department in neighboring El Paso, Texas. Cesar Duarte and Ciudad Juarez Mayor Javier Gonzalez looked on as the singer's ashes were returned to Mexico, while fans sang some of Juan Gabriel's songs. Juan Gabriel's ashes are to be kept at his former home in the border city of Ciudad Juarez, where his career began.
