Journalists for Human Rights gets $11.7 million to support program focused on women and girls

Journalists for Human Rights received on Friday $11.7 million from Global Affairs Canada to put towards a program aimed at furthering the rights of women and girls overseas. The program has three primary goals: strengthening journalist training with an emphasis on women’s and girl’s rights, increasing public input in decision-making, and increasing the participation of women and girls in public life. Over the next four years, the Canada World program will reach 12 million people internationally and six million in Canada, JHR said, while engaging 1,000 journalists, 640 journalism students and 650 key stakeholders related to the rights of women and girls. When women’s voices are heard, different stories start to be told. We get closer to hearing the whole story.”Other press partners for Canada World include the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), Bell Media/CTV News, CBC, Corus/Global TV and La Press.
