Journalist pleads not guilty to making disruptive statements on coronavirus

KUALA LUMPUR: A journalist pleaded not guilty at Magistrate’s Court here to three charges of making statements involving the coronovirus on the social media platform that could lead to disruption of public order. Wan Noor hayati Wan Alias, 40, was charged with consciously making the statements via her Facebook account under the name of ‘Ibu Yati’ with the intention to cause public fear. She made the plea when the charges were read to her before magistrate Tawfiq Affandy Chin. Nurilya Ellyna Nor Azmal prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented. The court then allowed RM12,000 bail in one surety and set March 11 for re-mention of the case.
