A Sirajganj court has given police five days to interrogate Shahjadpur Mayor Halimul Haque Miru and five others in custody in journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul murder case. Shahjadpur upazila Senior Judicial Magistrate (cognisance) court sent the men on remand on Monday morning. Hundreds of people thronged the court premises in the morning, demanding maximum penalty for the accused. Shimul, upazila correspondent of the Daily Samakal, was shot on February 2 during a clash between a Chhatra League faction and Miru’s gang. Shimul’s wife accused the mayor, his brother and 16 others in a murder case on February 3.
