Yacob W/Mariam, a pioneering figure in Ethiopian journalism, passed away at the age of 94. He dedicated the majority of his life’s work to the field over five decades of distinguished service. Yacob made history as the first Ethiopian Editor-in-Chief of the state-owned Ethiopian Herald newspaper. Born in Neqemte town, Yacob was among Ethiopia’s earliest professional journalists. Yacob is survived by seven children, and the funeral will be held tomorrow at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa.
