The two managers have been involved in a very public war of words over the past couple of months, and there had been some speculation that Conte would snub a handshake. Conte came out a little later and hung back, and it appeared as though he was deliberately avoiding Mourinho. The Portuguese manager offered his hand just before kick-off and Conte did not refuse it, though the exchange did not look like a particularly easy one. Conte had accused Mourinho of being a ‘little man’ suffering from dementia after his comments earlier this season, and had even offered him out in a room prior to Sunday’s match.
