Jolly good show for the Queen's birthdaySarah Spence is performing Elgar's Cello Concerto in the British musical Last Night of the Proms. The "jolly good" show, which kicks off in July, is a celebration of the Queen's 90th birthday and guests are invited to "celebrate in true British style". Auckland Symphony Orchestra musical director Peter Thomas says the show, which has become a popular annual event for 16 years, will be a "lively evening". The Auckland Symphony Orchestra and choral group Stellar Singers are also performing for the two shows at Auckland Town Hall and Takapuna's Bruce Mason Centre. Last Night of the Proms is a fun show even for people who know little about classical music, she says.
