The nominees for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards were announced Monday morning, by Issa Rae and John Cho, with Joker, The Irishman and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood leading the pack. The Two Popes also made a surprise showing, with nominations for both lead actors Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, shutting out Rocketman’s Taron Egerton, who picked up the Golden Globe just a week ago. Other actors left out of the conversation are Adam Sandler for Uncut Gems, and Lupita Nyong’o for Us. Knives Out managed to become the rare comedy to score a nomination, for Best Original Screenplay for Rian Johnson, while Frozen 2 was shut out of the Animated Film category, as was Beyoncé’s music for TheLion King in Best Original Song. To see who will win the ultimate prizes (or snubs), catch this year’s ceremony, which will air live on Feb. 9, and will go hostless.
