Johor cops nab 282 for illegal gambling - Nation


JOHOR BARU: Johor police have hauled up 282 people in a span of ten days in connection to illegal online gambling. Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azman Ayob said 54 raids were carried out under Ops Dadu Khas from Sept 10 to Sept 20 to uncover underground online gambling activities in the state. He added that police received help from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to cut off the electricity supply at those gambling dens during the raids. SAC Azman said from January to August, 674 raids were conducted resulting the arrest of 4,079 and seizure of 12,999 online gambling machines. He said those involved in illegal gambling could face a fine of between RM20,000 and RM200,000 and maximum jail term of five years if convicted under Section 4B(a) of the Open House Gambling Act 1953.
