John Swinney moved to defend his shamed colleague Michael Matheson after he was criticised over an attempt to be re-elected as an MSP. The disgraced SNP MSP charged taxpayers £11k for a data roaming bill he racked up while on a family holiday in Morocco. Mr Swinney defended his ally over his attempt to keep his seat. Scottish Tory Central Scotland MSP Stephen Kerr said: “John Swinney appears to have learned no lessons. Taxpayers are appalled that Michael Matheson has the brass neck to put himself forward as a candidate for the next election after he lied to them.
