John Ivison: Atwal affair exposes tension in Canadian politics that still exists over Sikh extremism

Khalistan is the would-be Sikh homeland in the Indian state of Punjab. Atwal, a millworker and member of the banned extremist group the International Sikh Youth Federation, was charged for the attack but acquitted. The Post was not able to reach Atwal for comment Thursday, but he has always denied playing any role in the attack on Dosanjh. Atwal was subsequently convicted of attempted murder in a 1986 attack on an Indian state cabinet minister who was visiting Vancouver Island. Is it possible that Surrey Centre MP Sarai didn’t know Atwal, I asked Dosanjh?
