John Dingell, longest-serving member of Congress, dies at 92

John Dingell, the longest-serving member in the history of Congress, died Thursday at 92, Fox News has confirmed. Six years later, Dingell joined the army as the United States entered World War II, eventually rising to the rank of Second Lieutenant. In 1955, Dingell’s father died while still in office, leaving a vacancy for a seat he had held for 22 years. In 1981, Dingell became the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, a position he held until 1995 and regained in 2007. Over more than half a century in the House, Dingell helped pass several landmark measures, including civil rights and Medicare.
