FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — John Daly arrived at the 10th hole on Bethpage State Park’s Black Course behind the wheel of Club Cart No. He had a large McDonald’s cup in the holder, four Diet Coke cans beneath the dashboard and his right hand on a steering wheel that was covered with a blue handicap sign. It was not until he reached the fairway on his third hole that he lit his first cigarette. He finished five over on the afternoon, 12 shots off the lead and tied for 112th place out of 155 golfers. “The guy’s amazing,” said Steven Fedoris, who wore a black T-shirt emblazoned with the image of Daly smoking a cigarette and “Rip it and Sip it” across the front.
