I followed the Joe Thornton signing by the Maple Leafs a few months back with a great deal of interest. I dialed the only Philadelphia number I had, the Flyers’ main number, and was put through to the marketing department. Someone in that office knew that Bobby Clarke, the legendary Bobby Clarke, had a connection with a Toyota dealership. Was I really going to call and ask Bobby Clarke to help me buy a car? Thornton signed a one-year deal for a shot at an elusive Stanley Cup ring, and he might only be around short-term.
