Former Leinster and Ireland coach Joe Schmidt is strongly considering putting his name forward to be the next head coach of the All Blacks according to reports in New Zealand. Indeed, the process could have a knock-on effect to one of Schmidt’s old teams, with Leo MacDonald heavily touted for a role in the set-up. MacDonald has been linked with Leinster and Scotland, although Leo Cullen distanced himself from that speculation last weekend. Schmidt is currently working as assistant to Ian Foster who has criticised the decision to appoint his successor before this year’s Rugby World Cup. He is credited with many of the improvements that led to the All Blacks bouncing back from the Series defeat to winning the Rugby Championship.
