Joe Montana claims he didn’t choose Trey Lance over Mac Jones in his third round of selection in the NFL Draft. “If I were the 49ers, I would have taken my kid from Alabama last year (Mac Jones),” he said of ESPN. The USC quarterbacks that Mac Jones and Montana have mentioned in the past were all beneficiaries of the cast who helped them develop their skills. So, in that logic, Mac Jones’ situation was Nick Saban when he was drafted into a Bill Belichick quarterback room where he could learn under one of the sport’s top aggressive coordinators, Josh McDaniel. Joe Montana may be right that the 49ers made the wrong draft choice, but it’s fair to mention that Mac Jones is in the perfect place.
