Jim Johannson, US Olympic men’s hockey general manager, dies unexpectedly at age 53


Jim Johannson, the general manager of the U.S. Olympic men's hockey team, died in his sleep Sunday morning, just weeks before the start of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, USA Hockey announced. The team won the 2000 USA Hockey Junior A National Championship title under his guidance. “Jim’s positive influence was enormous and will be felt for generations to come,” Jim Smith, president of USA Hockey, said in a statement. He later went on to play 374 games of professional hockey between 1987-94 in the International Hockey League where he registered 279 points, including 119 goals. USA Hockey said funeral arrangements are pending.
