Jharkhand assembly convened on 17 August to ratify GST bill


Ranchi: The Jharkhand assembly has been convened on 17 August to ratify the Constitution Amendment Bill on Goods and Services Tax (GST) passed by the Parliament. Speaker Dinesh Oraon, who adjourned the monsoon session indefinitely on 29 July, has convened it at 11am on 17 August as per rule, an official release said in Rachi on Saturday. The GST Bill, passed by both Houses of Parliament recently, needs to be ratified by at least 15 state legislatures before the President can notify the GST Council, which will decide the new tax rate and other issues. Assam, another BJP-ruled state, became the first state in the country after its Legislative assembly unanimously ratified the Constitution Amendment Bill on GST on Friday.
