Grut received a Northern Area Performance Theatre Award nomination for his interpretation of Mickey in last year's Blood Brothers. Meanwhile, Centrestage regular George Keenan will also make his return to the story as antihero Judas Iscariot, following his role as Thomas in Auckland Theatre Company's 2014 adaptation.
