Jerry Krause, architect of Bulls dynasty, dead at 77

Jerry Krause, the general manager who helped guide the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships, died Tuesday. Krause was the team’s general manager from 1985 to 2003 and put the pieces in place around Michael Jordan that turned the Bulls into a dynasty. A finalist for induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this year, Krause also worked as a scout for a handful of major league baseball teams after leaving the Bulls. Krause, a noted loner nicknamed The Sleuth for keeping his personnel thoughts to himself in what’s a sometimes incestuous business, developed a reputation as a shrewd talent evaluator. “(I) didn’t know him really well personally, but just knew him out of respect, knew what he put together in Chicago, the ’96 team they beat us in the finals when I was in Seattle,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said.
