Exeter Labour MP Ben Bradshaw added: "The Labour Shadow Cabinet must now act to save the Party and for the sake of the country. It is with a heavy heart that I have this morning resigned from the Shadow Cabinet. Last night, senior Labour MP Margaret Hodge, who proposed the no-confidence vote, said that although it would not be binding on Corbyn, he should quit if it passed. Heidi Alexander has quit the Shadow Cabinet in protest at Jeremy Corbyn's dramatic decision to sack Hilary Benn today amid reports he was orchestrating a coup against him. In a midnight telephone call, Corbyn told the Leeds Central MP he was kicking him out of the top team.
